A spider bite is an injury resulting from the bite of a spider. Some spider bites feel like pinpricks so that most people do not realize they are bitten. The other may be not sure whether they have been bitten or not. Nobody wants to feel any harm, but in order to ensure yourself or just help you to identify the spider bites, it: at least you should know the basic things about the types of spider and the symptoms of each. This article will discuss about the general symptoms to the specific ones.
Here are the common symptoms of spider bite, both venomous or non venomous one :
- The pain may occur in the bitten site.
- The bitten area and the skin tissue around it may becomes swelling.
- Redness
- Irritation
Usually, even without any treatment, these symptoms will be gone within seven to ten days after.
Types of spider bite
You may wonder, we are going to talk about spider bites symptoms, so why do we have to know the types too? Because the symptoms of spider bites are different based on the type of spider itself, especially for the venomous ones.
Here are the type of spiders and the symptoms of their bites, from the harmless ones to the ones which may cause several fatal reactions :
Parson spider
The bite of this spider is the non toxic one, but still can cause allergic reaction to a person such as increasing sweating, swelling, itching and in extreme cases may cause nausea and elevated temperature.
Tarantulas
Tarantula’s venom is more categorized of causing allergic reaction than being the cause of dangerous and life threatening situation. If a person has no history of any allergic reaction, the site of bitten area will pain, itch and become red and warm.
But if that person has allergic reactions to the venom, he may feel worse symptoms such as difficult to breathe, low blood pressure, swelling at : the bitten site, lips and throat, abnormal heart rate, eyelid puffiness, and in extreme cases cardiovascular collapse.
Sac spider bite
These spiders are very small and have various colors. After being bitten by this spider, a person may feel stinging sensation and the other local reactions. After that, a blister may develop on the bitten area and if it has broken, it may leave a sore which will last for a few weeks.
Black widow
The venomous ones are the female spiders which has a red marking on its belly and it looks like an hourglass. The name “black widow” refers to the unique habit of the female ones to eat their mates.
After being bitten by a black widow, a person my feel pain. But the difference is the pain at first occur in the site of bite, but later it will spread to the whole body.
Beside the local reaction such as itching, reddish and pain, black widow bite also causes : anxiety, shortness or difficulty of breathing, hypertension, excessive sweating, increased saliva, nausea, muscles weakness, vomiting, and restlessness.
Brown recluse
This spider also known as “violin spider” because it has a marking on its back which looks like a violin. Most of people bitten by this spider do not feel any severe reaction, but the others may feel pain, burning, itching and the other local reaction at the site of bitten area. After 8 hours, the pain may increase.
Although rarely, the bitten area becomes dark blue or purple before it turns into an ulcer which will be larger and larger as the skin dies. The discoloration is caused by the venom which also may cause tissue death.
Brazilian wandering spiders
Like the other spider bites, in the beginning a person will experience the local reaction. But after 30 minute, the venom start to affect body system causing hypertension, abnormal heartbeat, nausea, hypothermia, vertigo, shock, blurred vision, abdominal cramping and convulsions.
Funnel-web spider
This species is one of a very poisonous spiders. Beside feels the local reaction, a person who has been bitten by this spider will be difficult to breathe, pain at join and muscle, abnormal heart rate, headache, diarrhea, nausea, chills, collapse, tremors, double vision, drooling, vomiting, confusion, and even coma.
