Will Ringworm Go Away on Its Own?

Ringworm is classified as a fungal infection that may occur in both human and animal; it is spreading through skin contact. Many people asking will ringworm go away on its own? Actually ringworm will not disappear from your skin unless you do the treatment to remove this fungal infection. Because ringworm will spread as long as there is keratin on your skin which can be consumed by the fungi. It is called as a ringworm as long as the fungal infection occur on your body skin, it will be called as an athlete’s foot when the ringworm occur on your feet; while jock itch refers to a ringworm that occurs on the groin.

  • How does ringworm occur?

Ringworm is usually occur on boys who is not yet reaching his puberty, but basically you may catch a ringworm when you have a direct contact with the fungi, man or animal that suffer a ringworm. Basically, there are fungi whenever we go, you can almost find any type of fungi around your household, athletic instrument and even on your body. People tend to get ringworm easily when they used to share their personal belonging with other people such as towel, clothing and sport equipment.  But of course, you can’t really avoid the contact with the public belonging; so the only thing you should do is to prevent yourself form getting the infection.  Ringworm is caused by Trichophyton rubrum or Microsporum canis; Trichophyton rubrum is spreading through human skin, while Microsporum canis spread through the direct contact with the animal.

  • How to get rid of ringworm on human’s skin

You might need to consider applying antifungal cream to treat the area that are infected by the ringworm, the cream need to be applied in surrounding infected area and the normal skin (around 6 cm). You need to apply the cream regularly based on the instrument of your antifungal cream; try to apply the cream as long as possible until the symptoms completely gone.  You can also consult your ringworm problem to your skin doctor, especially if your ringworm is followed with inflammation.  Doctor might recommend you to apply a mild steroid cream for two weeks to reduce the inflammation; but then you still need to continue the treatment by applying antifungal cream to get rid of the fungal infection. You don’t have to consume antifungal medicine as long as your ringworm isn’t considered as severe; people with special care such as pregnant, breast-feeding mother and children who are younger than 12 years old might need different treatment.

  • How to get ringworm on your animal

Ringworms are also occurring on animal, especially the cat; if your pet is diagnosed with ringworm, you might not only need to concern about your pet’s treatment but also the environment. Ringworm in animal usually disappears after 3 months or more, but you can also accelerate the healing process by applying several treatments to your pet. Basically there are 4 types of treatment that are now available to your animal including sulfur shampoo, Griseofulvin, Luthenuron, and Ringworm Vaccine. You need to make sure consulting with veterinarian before choosing the treatment, because some of them might be dangerous to specific animal.
