Why Does Staph Infection Keep Coming Back?

February 25, 2017 by Admin2 Leave a Comment

Recurring staph infections are a big problem for a lot of people who have to deal with these infections. Additionally, most doctors do not know how to tackle this problem as it is usually unclear why it keeps coming back. Here you will find several main reasons of why these infections keep reoccurring, what causes them to come back, and what you as a patient can do about it.

Resistance to Antibiotic

Since staph infections are most commonly treated with antibiotics, the bacteria is becoming more and more resistant to more antibiotics than before. Nowadays, there is no guarantee that these antibiotics will manage the condition as well as they could before. Additionally, the antibiotics can also make your body more prone to getting an infection again, as they make your immune system weaker as they get rid of the existing bacteria. It is also worth mentioning that side effects caused by the antibiotics can actually make you feel less energized, cause gut problems, and slow down your overall recovery.

It is known that even though the antibiotics work against the infection, they only target the living bacteria that are the cause of your current infection but are unable to keep the bacteria from entering your body again and causing another infection later.

Since antibiotics are heavily used in traditional medicine, medical professionals do not have the answer to why the infection keeps coming back, and that is why they prescribe more courses of antibiotics. Precisely for this reason, bacteria becomes resistant and the patients with staph infections keep using antibiotics but see no improvement.

One of the possible solutions for this problem of recurring infections is to get as much as information as possible about the alternatives for antibiotics and maybe utilize some of them. There are numerous natural remedies that can have similar or better results on your staph infection but have no negative side effects that antibiotics have.

Treatment of the Symptoms Only

Most of the time, only symptoms, not the causes are treated. Most medicine, including antibiotics, usually treat only the symptoms, which in this case is the infection, but do not treat the underlying issue – the cause of the infection. Staph bacteria survives after the antibiotic course, lays dormant in your body, and causes new infections when your immune system becomes weak and opens the doors to new growth of bacteria. Unless you change the conditions in your body that are bacteria-friendly, the infection will keep reoccurring over and over again.

Naturally, it takes a lot of time to change the environment in your whole organism, and it takes a lot of patience as well. You have to build your immune system and make it stronger. Changing your diet, taking supplements, and applying other methods may take time but yields great results and makes you strong again.

Think about what makes the infection reoccur. Being ill, stressed, not sleeping enough, cutting yourself often and consuming a lot of sugar can all trigger to an infection outbreak, and if you add a weakened immune system to all of this, you can definitely expect to be dealing with staph again.

Relying Only on One Treatment Option

Most people think that taking a course of antibiotics will solve all the problems with their staph infections and do little to actually consider other treatment options along with the antibiotics. By putting all of your eggs in one basket, you are risking the recurrence of staph and becoming resistant to an antibiotic treatment. No matter how powerful the medicine is, it is simply not enough to use it on its own.

First of all, different people have different bodies and different needs, so it is only natural to conclude that they need different treatments to achieve the results they want. Each infection differs and depending on the individual it can have different effects.

Secondly, staph bacteria has become resistant to certain medications, so it is not enough to use only one option to treat it. There should be at least two if not more treatments for staph, as the bacteria will not be able to escape all of them at once.

Finally, even if the treatment you opted for does work, there is no guarantee that it will actually solve the underlying cause of the infection. Getting to the root of the problem is the only way of getting rid of it once and for all, and relying only on antibiotics or another treatment is simply not effective and will not give you the results you need.

Biofilms

The ability of staph bacteria to form biofilms is another reason for the recurrence of the infection. Biofilms protect the bacteria and shield it from the medicine, and unless you take the necessary steps to address the biofilm issue, it will be very easy for the bacteria to re-enter your body or wake up when your immune system is weakened, since the biofilms mask the bacteria in your body and let it out when the treatment is over.

Being Exposed

Being exposed to the environments where there is a high risk of infection is a big cause of the reoccurrence of the staph infection. Healthcare facilities and hospitals fall into a high-risk group, so taking extra precautions when you absolutely must go there is of the essence when it comes to the prevention of the infection.
