Will going off birth control help my cellulite?

Birth control might be a very important thing for some people. This is a method of planning—if not preventing your pregnancy. Birth control is usually done by taking certain pills which modulate your reproduction organs. These pills are mostly proven effective in preventing women from getting pregnant. Yet, these pills also hold numerous bad effects which are not good for your body.

Effects of birth control

As does many other things in this world, birth control pills or shots have their good and bad side effects. These hormone-based birth control might give you the lightest to the more complicated issues once taken. Estrogen and progestin are two common hormones added into birth control pills. These hormones have a significant role in controlling ovulation.

A couple of good effects of birth control pills or shots are:

  1. The pills can get rid of acnes

Some birth control pills contain skin-friendly progesterone, which is useful for acne clearing. Acnes are caused by excessive oil or sebum production. This sebum which causes skin breakouts are induced by the existence of certain amount of testosterone in women’s body. Progesterone in certain birth pills can lower the level of testosterone inside women’s body and hence, help decreasing sebum production and skin breakouts.

  1. Decreases pre-menstrual syndrome

Pre-menstrual syndrome can be really painful and disturbing for some women. This syndrome includes severe migraines, low blood tension, mood swings, abdomen cramps, backache, and breasts tenderness. Taking birth control pills gives your body a constant supply of estrogen and progesterone, which will ease these pre-menstruation illnesses.

While the bad sides include:

  1. Decreasing libido

Some birth control pills reduce the level of libido by releasing progesterone which defeat sex hormones, including testosterone, although not all women experience this, because this decreasing libido might also be affected by the anxiety of being pregnant.

If you are taking the pills during breastfeeding months, you will find that your breast milk production is decreasing, because of the content of estrogen.

In first times taking the pills, women are more likely to experience vaginal spotting or bleeding. It is because the hormones make the endometrial lining thinner and breakable, so that it sheds through your genital.

This is probably the most horrifying effect of the pills. Estrogen works by destroying natural collagen beneath the skin. Therefore, you are more likely to develop cellulite after taking the pills. As cellulite is non-removable, this issue might be complicated for most women. Although not all, most women use contraception report the occurrence of the dimply skin.

Will going off birth control help my cellulite?

If these pills induce cellulite occurrence, will stop taking those gets rid of cellulite? When you get off birth control pills, you might find your menstrual cycles back. The level of estrogen and progestin will also decrease. Cellulite occurs because of bulged up fats beneath the dermis. Beside the diet, regular exercises also help you get rid of cellulite after going off hormonal pills. Strength exercises such as walking, running, cycling, and weight lifting might make your skin firmer and your muscles fuller, so that the dimply areas will be less noticeable. Should you still need birth control for your family planning, you can try more natural and non-hormonal contraception, such as condoms, diaphragms, and calendar cycle. These birth control methods are not only simple and have minimal side effects, but also safer to be used for longer period of time. These natural birth control methods are also cellulite-free.
